I was not really an active or athletic person. My nutrition was poor. Exercise mostly consisted of walking and some outdoor family activities.
In my mid 40’s a very close friend inspired me to start running. I basically started with a couch to 5k program. Within one year I did the Sun Run in Vancouver. I got the running bug and just kept going.
Soon after I decided I needed to add something to my training, to make me stronger and help me reduce stress. I joined a local gym. I became fit, lost weight from better food choices and was able to complete my first half marathon. That was three years ago. Since then I have completed 8 half marathons, one 30K race and numerous 5 and 10k distances
In June 2016, I trained and went to Tough Mudder in Whistler BC. It was my happy 50th birthday celebration. Unfortunately I sustained a fairly significant injury and was just shy of completion of the race. What lay ahead was surgery and lots of rehab and physio. Seven months later I started running again. This difficult time, made me a stronger, more determined and extremely grateful person.
During that time I decided to make a life changing decision. With the support of my family, I resigned from my retail manager position and returned to school to become a Personal Trainer. I inquired through a few different avenues and finally found CFES and the Personal trainer program. Attending class was a terrific experience for me. It gave me a whole new perspective on life.
I am now certified as a Personal Trainer through Canada Fitness Education Services. As a personal trainer we are required to always be learning and applying new skills to keep our certificate active. Nutrition and rehabilitation are 2 fields that I would like to pursue for ongoing education. This allows me to further educate my clients.
Whether you are 20, 40 or 60. I believe being fit is a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. Getting fit isn’t an all or nothing attitude. It is about support, motivation, coaching, relationships and setting goals. I am here for you to learn to love yourself, exceed your limitations and to have confidence.
My trainer did this for me and now I would love to help you succeed too!
